The road was originally an ancient track-way that ran through the Great Middlesex Forest. It was the Romans who eventually joined the track with Watling Street. Edgware Road tube station was unfortunately the target of one of the 7 July bombings. Six people were killed in this tragic incident and a memorial plaque was unveiled at the station a year after the incident.
