A Tipple or Two Sept. 20, 2012, 11:51 a.m.

When it comes to the weekend, we are all looking forward to the respite. Some may opt to take the time do, well, nothing. Whilst others prefer to be more active, heading to the gym, going for walks, feeling the wind in their hair (with their partner for a romantic stroll). Something that we like to do here at Chic, is socialise. Whether than means heading to a bar on a Friday evening, after work, or hosting a drinks and dinner occasion, we’re such social butterflies.

Food is an important part of the evening; you can’t just rely on a bag of pretzels and some hummus to see you through. We’ll always opt for tapas, nothing beats a nibble. Olives, dips, crudite, hors d'oeuvres; you name it’s there. This not only means there is less likely to be a bout of food poisoning with undercooked poultry, or lacing your curry with nuts, only to find out a guests has a severe allergy [note: always ask your guests their dietary and allergy requirements. Essential!], but also more time to get ready. Decorate the table with a decorative cloth, choose the right crockery (mismatched old china looks great for that touch of vintage) and light some candles - perfect!

After you have the food down to a T, it’s time to think tipples. Everyone will be expecting to feed their hungry bellies, but it is normally the case that you will be expected to BYOB [bring your own booze]. However, a selection of mixers and the perfect alcoholic accompaniments will be very impressive. Not only will the appreciate the hard work that you’ve put into the decoration and food, but they’ll also note your mixology/cocktail table. Plus, if a gorgeous girl from Chic London escort is privy to your party, she will be more than impressed! After all, a host must be accompanied by a beautiful woman.

So, what do we suggest? Here’s a few ideas to whet your appetite...

  • 1.) Elderflower Cordial - This is an essential for any barman (that’s you!) especially for a dinner party such as this. It mixes well with anything summary; think prosecco. Or perhaps gin or vodka with a touch of something sparkling to give it that fizz.

  • 2.) Fentimans Dandelion & Burdock - This high-quality brewed drinks is absolute vintage. That unusual taste, that forces our minds to hark back to our childhood. Apparently leaves a satisfying flavour when mixed with gin. We recommend adding a good heady, dark rum ourselves.

  • 3.) Canada Dry Ginger Ale - This gingery, peppery, not too sweet sparkling mixer is great on its own. However, when mixed with a dark spirit, such as rum, whiskey or bourbon it tastes delicious. Try it and see.
