Style This Summer June 29, 2012, 5:45 p.m.

It’s possible this summer to have found yourself wondering, ‘just when did the capital get so hot!’ Well, it’s certainly nothing new because it’s the general understanding that the summer months be hotter than the winter ones. And having received our heating bill for the months of December, January and February, we’re well aware of just how cold it was. But the only thing that really bothers us about this weather is what to wear. In the winter, on goes the suit and you’re a gooden. It’s raining? An umbrella synonymous of Mr Steed from The Avengers teamed with a belted brown mac.

Dressing for winter is incredibly easy; so long as you’re a dab hand with layers. But come the sun-filled months and we find ourselves perspiring on the tube, just as the most gorgeous girl we’ve ever seen gets on. We’re not naive enough to believe that people meet on the underground, and have hilarious stories to tell their grandkids, but it’s still nice to be wanted. If this is the case, and you find yourself constantly deliberating about what to wear, especially if you’re meeting with an English escort, who is in love with the quintessential British stylish male, don’t even think about heading to the wardrobe doors just yet. You’re not ready! Wait until you’ve read our tips, and then get ready to dress yourself the best way possible.

Once thought to be reserved solely for the gentry sporting club, the polo shirt has made a welcome return. Just make sure it’s short-sleeves and buttoned to the neck. Smart and sophisticated with enough skin on show to ventilate. In fact, as long as you’ve an ironed, non-offensive and non-bland Tee, it’s pairable with anything, but commit to your bottom half. Either a full length jean or a short. Do not, under any circumstances, wear a ¾ length. There really is no need. And women get the impression you’re indecisive, not able to make a choice. This is the last thing you want.

If you’re meeting in a pub, the chances are you might be slightly nerved about your rendezvous, however you’re not in the market for pit stains. Surprisingly, knit is incredibly on trend this year so don’t panic that we’re going to throw a heavy cable knit at you. Instead, the lightest wool, think T shirt again (we think we have an addiction), but long sleeved and rather quite soft to the touch. It’s chic and smart without projecting the image that you’re a try hard. Or emulating your dad.

Right. NOW you’re ready.
