Is Chivalry Dead? May 9, 2012, 3:19 p.m.

The revival of the black and white film shot to our screen, whilst concurrently, vintage style becomes increasingly more popular. This harking back to yesteryear, of a lifestyle and experience that once was is growing more apparent. TV, films, fashion and even within the music style there is a noticeable influence of the vintage era of the 20s through to the 60s. The well dressed woman and the perfect gentleman go hand in hand. Many try to replicate the image and style of their favourite decade, some even adopting this as a full term lifestyle.

However, it is common knowledge that the gentlemen of this time were very chivalrous. In today’s society, men are in such a rush to get to work on time, get to their meeting or are just too blinkered to notice anything else. There are still a few gents about town, that open the door for ladies, offer them a seat on a bus or tube and the such. But a fair amount of men seem to have simply disregarded these finer qualities of a man.

It can be argued that it is seen as a feminist issue, however any intelligible understanding of the situation would decipher it as polite, courteous manners. The escorts London have to offer, especially those at Chic, respect and admire a man that knows his manners. An act of utter gallantry is what’s missing and when a guy comes along with these discerning traits, he is very much appreciated.

There are some key chivalrous acts that men should be aware of. Some are simple, others require a certain element of sauve and sophistication. But, we’re confident you can pull them off.

1. This is a general rule. As a polite and gentlemanly act, you should hold the door for anyone that is following close by. This could be a friend, colleague, elderly person, especially a lovely lady.

2. When in the company of a lady and the weather is fairly cool. Ask her if she is feeling too cold. Offer your jacket to keep her warm.

3. When out and about with her, take the side of the pavement closest to the road. This is a sign of protection, from being splashed by a puddle and shielding her from the traffic.

4. Offering to pick her up and take her home. This is not to imply anything untoward, it is simply gentlemanly etiquette.

5. Remember, ladies first. By this we mean, adopting the saying “after you, please”. This is not so you can check her out from behind, but to present to her that she is the star of the show. Ladies recognise the sentiment that you wish to guide her, without smothering her. It is important to not become a dominant male, but a protective, yet relaxed one.

Take note guys. A gentle touch of courteous behaviour and a sprinkling of chivalry is the perfect way to woo a lady. Women are more than capable of fending for themselves, paying their share of the bill and putting their coat on themselves, but that doesn’t mean they’re not suckers for the perfect gent. Try these little gestures and you’ll definitely impress.
